Styling Avocado: The Studio Coat

Coming to The Tiny Closet Shop in April, I’m ecstatic to be releasing ‘The Studio Coat’

In both black linen and the avocado cotton sateen (featured here today), I’ve been wearing this newest design for a couple months now. Which I always do - wear my designs for months if not years before I put them out into the shop. To be honest though, I was only wearing the black linen version of this coat until recently. I chose the avocado cotton for those special Tiny Closet shoppers that love color, and need vibrance in their wardrobe. And since color isn’t that integral to my wardrobe plan, I assumed the black linen iteration of this coat would be my go-to… And it may, (check out how I style it in this blog post) but now it’s a toss up! Turns out, avocado meshes quite well with my minimalist wardrobe. In a pleasantly surprising way.

Who would’ve thought this hue could be both a pop and a neutral??

Trying to find pieces to wear with this seemingly complex hue became an intriguing journey. One that made me question everything I thought I knew about color rules, and even my own color preference. Being a neutral-loving minimalist myself, working with this color was a new experience and I was surprised to find that nearly everything in my closet coordinated beautifully! So I thought I’d give you a preview of how I’ve been styling this coat - particularly in this avocado iteration.

First of all, the possibilities seem to be endless! But for now, let’s discuss charcoal and white. Two perhaps obvious (or not so obvious) go-to colors commonly found in most wardrobes. Charcoals and whites are colors you can pair with not just this avocado coat, but also limes, chartreuse and other generally citrusy greens.

By the way, I will most definitely be dedicating another blog post to even more possible style pairings with this color!

You’ve seen this beloved jumpsuit gem (made by Jungmaven) where, in an earlier post, I wore it with all white. It also does quite well with avocado outerwear. And with the gorgeous sheen of the sateen, this coat (and its color) really do elevate a casual twill denim jumpsuit to a vibrant new Spring look. The white pops, the green pops, and yet the outfit isn’t too loud for the neutral, understated personal styling that I prefer. That being said, you can most certainly make this coat crow like a rooster if you want to! I might dabble in that in another post, just for the fun of it.

And if you don’t have an all-white jumpsuit, a white button up or white tank with white pants or denim will essentially achieve the same look. Likely, it will be better due to the flattering shaping of the pants. I have plans to rock that outfit as well.

I was surprised to fall head over heels for this charcoal pairing. Avocado with charcoal midi pants is a sophisticated duo. And this particular charcoal works so well, likely due to the unique texturing of the sand-washed cupro fabric, so I would suggest charcoal in a washed silk, a crepe or cupro. Just due to the typical texture found in these fabrics. But any fabric in charcoal will still work very well. Even a pair of dark ashy acid-rinse denim.

This coat is similar to a robe or errand coat in that you can pop it on anywhere and go. I love those type of pieces in my closet, don’t you? And with no hardware and an open design that I like to adhere to with my clothing line, it’s made for warm weather outfits, as well as cold weather layering. And very size friendly. But you’ll get to know all the details on this truly fabulous new outerwear item later this month when I open a pre-order. For now, get to know The Studio Coat here on the blog, and on my Instagram. I’ll be having fun styling it all month long - and sharing it with you!
