FIT & WEAR: Insights into Wearing The Tiny Closet

Today I want to dive more deeply into the fit and wearability of The Tiny Closet line, and share with you my most frequently asked questions and comments in sizing.  Over the years, I've gathered major insight on the fit and sizing of my line through watching how my pieces actually perform on a wide range of body shapes and sizes. Sizing and fit is the most popular topic I receive in my inbox so I hope this will help you in choosing the best pieces for your body and features, and what you're trying to achieve with your look.

Full Hips / Full Bust Line

For those with fuller hips or a fuller bust line, you will likely love slipping on The Day Tripper and The Painter dresses - both best-selling dresses in this category! The Day Tripper is a rayon crepe drape-y dream while The Painter is a structured durable chore dress. Both are open statement in design that when laid flat look like an upside down triangle.  This design is large on top and moves inward, narrowing toward the hemline. This means you will have plenty of room up top as well as the hip area.  In breathable, more delicate fabric, The Day Tripper was made for elevated events, while The Painter is cotton-based with iterations in denim and linen, and made for day to day work.  Although the XL reads a 16-18, this style has been known to fit up to size 20.  Chances are you'll look great in multiple sizes in this, but if you're unsure of which range you'll fit, It's best to size down.

Broad Shoulders / Full Arms

The Editor Open Coat as well as The Tourist styles are known to be very comfortable for those who tend to find tops or dresses too tight in the arm or shoulder area.  The Tourist Range comes in a short top, a tunic and a dress.  Its cooling heavy-drape TENCEL fabric is the only fabric I work with for this design.  And for good reason - The Tourist drapes like water. But regarding fit, it's a straight open shape from top to bottom with a wider short sleeve opening to accommodate movement and wearability. And just like The Editor Coat, the sleeves are part of the bodice (no separate sleeving) creating natural openness for broader shoulders, fuller arms, or a fuller bust line.

Straight Waistline

If a tiny waist has never been an issue for you, hi!  It's never been something I've needed to think about either.  Nearly all of my styles graze over the waistline without cling so enjoy!  A couple bestsellers that don't highlight waist are The Classic Range, which comes in a top, a midi dress and a maxi dress, and The Nomad Wrap Dress. Both styles are ready to be worn open, belted, or layered.   And with a straight shape, The Nomad in particular calls attention to the minimal aesthetic V-neck wrap detail.

Tall / Long Legs

Great news, I offer tall sizing in almost all of my designs for those who are 5'8" and above - or for those with simply lengthier legs, both in The Seasonal Shop and The Capsule.  Take a look at the product description page to see if tall sizing is available in an item you like. Highlighting a couple most popular styles for my tall shoppers are The Lounger Pant and The Curator Midi Dress, by far the most purchased items.  The Seasonal Shop frequently offers a tall option too so keep your eyes peeled for those seasonal releases.  And if you're ever curious about an item not on the tall list, it never hurts to ask. I'd like to work with you!

**Conversely, if you are petite (5’3” and below), you can still wear any item in the shop without needing alteration. As the designer of The Tiny Closet line, I must also mention that I am 5', and I model much of my clothing.  Many of my designs are below the knee to shin length and that's exactly where they'll hit you too if you are 5'3" or below.  For those with average height, these hemlines will only be slightly higher.

SIZING BEYOND THE RANGE

If you typically wear a size XL or above in stores, some of my bestsellers are available in what is similar to 18-20 and ALL Capsule styles are designed with those sizes in mind. The XL size is labeled as 16-18 but this range is accommodating and runs roomy. My Capsule pieces have all fit beautifully on shoppers with a standard size of 19 or 20.  Again, this all comes down to shape rather than overall measurements, which can vary widely from one person to the next.  I encourage you to try any of these styles for yourself and of course if you'd like to get into the numbers, I'm happy to recommend the right size for your specific measurements. I also want to iterate that I have been working intently on expanding my sizing to 3 more additional sizes to what’s currently available. And this will indeed be announced when ready.

And if you wear size XS or smaller, many of my pieces begin at what would resemble a standard size 4. But I can recommend a few popular styles that are designed to be pretty fitted and known to fit snugIy: The Principal Top, The Curator Range and The Stylist. If a roomy fit might be too big for your frame, feel free to let me know if you need it taken in a bit more and we can discuss your options. Remember, your garment is made-to-order!

I hope this has been helpful in giving some insight into the performance of The Tiny Closet line.  I always welcome questions and I am happy to recommend certain pieces for you, should you ever need a bit of assistance while browsing.

Size for me and for many others has always weighed heavily on where you could shop, the kinds of clothing that was appropriate for you, and most importantly, how you felt about yourself in the clothing you did have access to.  It's my goal to remove that kind of limitation on how one can express themselves, and instead provide a blank canvas that welcomes anyone who wants to share their narrative.
