Slow Fashion Brands I Love to Wear

As much as my wardrobe is centered around my own Tiny pieces, I’m not sure it would be much without at least a few other bonafide, slowly made pieces from other fashion designers I love and trust.

In fact, I love these brands so much, I’ve decided to begin sharing them with you! How I wear them, how I mix and match them with my own Tiny Closet line, and how focusing on building a wardrobe made from small, diverse, local, thoughtful, climate-minded businesses, can change the world for the better.

Starting with ‘Two Days Off’. I first found this clothing line while looking for linen tops. And I fell instantly for the designer’s understated beauty and simplicity. I finally bought The Olivia Top (at an awesome market where I actually met Gina and got to tell her how much she has inspired me to continue doing what I do), and I will have this top for years to come. The weighted linen, the gorgeous black, the finishings of this deceptively simple piece is a treasure.

To be honest though, I was a bit disappointed when I first saw the Olivia Top, and dress online. It was actually a design I’d wanted to make for my shop and I felt they beat me to it! Darn! But then I realized the more small shops there are, the more small-batch, indie clothing designers there are, the more ethically sustainable options to go around for all of us. And that’s how small businesses can win. So many great things can come from more small business like mine and Gina’s. So what if I didn’t make this beautiful top? Two Days Off did. So now I can go over to them and buy it, and support them, and share their work with others so that others can do the same.

The next piece I’ve been really enjoying wearing through this season has been the Clyde Work Pant, from Elizabeth Suzanne Studio. A new business that has been coming up beautifully from the remains of a truly great enterprise. In 2020, Liz, owner of Elizabeth Suzanne, closed her doors. She’d built up quite an inspiring culture since 2013, with an enormous team (for a made-to-order indie business), thousands of customers and a fabulous factory/studio space. She currently works out of her home, sewing clothing with the help of contractors, and making small-batch best-sellers. I finally invested money in one of her pieces. Pricey because they’re meant to last and last. And I intend on mine to do just that.

And obviously, I can wear just about any of my own Tiny Closet pieces with these two gems. During the cooler months though, I find I’m constantly pulling out my Director Top to pair with my Clyde pants. And to top that off, I love my new l/s Range Jacket from Priory. By the way, I can’t believe I got to meet the shop owner, Eunice, when I bought my first Priory piece, too! Coming all the way down from Vancouver, she was so fun and pleasant to chat with as we laughed over the chaos of our jobs. Her eye for aesthetic and art flooded my mind with inspiration. And once again, I’m reminded how lucky I am to be in such great company as I blaze my own trail in this business.

This is a new blog series with lots more to come. This series has also births a new permanent page you’ll find in the footer menu: Shop Slow: Designer to Love. There, you’ll find a personally curated list of clothing designers I love and wear to mix with my own Tiny Closet line.

This list be updated slowly as it evolves, and it will remind you that if you don’t find what you’re looking for here, perhaps you can find it among this beautiful group of like-minded individuals who also make clothing like me.
